Amaco Underglaze
Lead-free Amaco Velvets are opaque underglazes which have the appearance of velvet when left unglazed. Velvets will become opaque after three coats. When glazed with transparent matte glaze they will assume a soft, satin finish. The colors will intensify when covered with a clear transparent gloss glaze, but will lose their matte surface quality. Velvets fire true to color from the jar and may be intermixed with other colors. They may be brushed on mature fired bisque before applying a covering glaze. These underglazes are safe for spray application. Velvets tolerate a wide firing range. Fire to Cone 06-10 (1855°F–2381°F, 1013°C–1305°C). Colors can be assorted by size for quantity pricing. Some colors vary at higher temperatures. Please refer to the Resources tab of this page to download a PDF of Amaco's color variation chart for colors at Cone 5 and Cone 10. Colors are not dinnerware safe unless applied and fired under Amaco LG-10 Clear glaze.
